Der schwarze Kanal, with a bit 'of irony
on the issue of online Italian newspaper "Il Giornale" was published an article on the issue toponymy: nationalist propaganda or little knowledge of the South Tyrol?
The article, published in ' online edition of the Italian right-wing newspaper Il Giornale 20 October 2007 and signed by Cristiano Gatti, entitled "Testing secession, Bolzano canecella 8 thousand names in Italian "is perhaps an extreme case: it is not actually an article that reports on the entry the Law on the place names given by all 21 provincial councilors of the SVP, but creates "toponymic terrorism." A genuine article of propaganda that no Italian-language newspaper in South Tyrol would dare to publish. In practice, the article follows the political slogans of the right room, which gives the impression to their electorates that any Italian place name would be cleared.
First, it is remarkable that the German place names used are those reported in the popular bestseller "Handbook of the local names of South Tyrol" Ettore Tolomei and not currently used. And so there is a doubt, that if the article has not been helped by someone who comes from our mountains (meaning that you can see is: "everything will be back as before 1918, and in fact the title of the article is explicit). The first thing you notice is in the photo: the sign indicates Neumarkt / Auer and Neumarkt / time with their Italian names obscured by the "x". Not taken into account in this case of two facts:
1. both locations are at the same time two municipalities, then the law does not plan to test your knowledge of the name of the local population
2. The Lowlands / Unterland is practically a historical area where the bilingual is not called questioned even by Schützen (see road map "South Tyrol" with the names historically based).
Here are the other falsehoods:
- the article starts with the pretext of difficulties in pronunciation of German names: a random ... "Glockenkaarkofl" (perhaps best known nowadays as Glockenkarkopf), which in Italian was translated as "the summit of Italy" (perhaps best known as the name of the body of a political party active in this part of Brenner). Even "Courmayeur [curmaiör] is difficult to pronounce for those unfamiliar with the French, yet it is a place situated in Italy.
- defininizione of the "tri-color language is bizarre, what then would talk about the Ticino and the Italian national minority in the Slovenian and Croatian?
- The investigation into the knowledge of place names has not started yet: it is not possible to argue with certainty that "Fischleinvalley (Fischleintal and not" Fischleinthal "the ancient Rechtschreibung)," Maso Corto "(Kurzhof) will be canceled, not knowing the procedures used in the detection of knowledge of place names.
- Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) is only a name Ladin maintained by Ptolemy in Italian: in addition to being historically recognized, it is also the most widely used by local people in Plan de Corones (the map of Schützen puts the Ladin name before the German population of the area is then Ladin-speaking (despite being in the town of Brunico / Bruneck).
- "Sud Tirol" not use anyone. Usually you write Südtirol, some prefer Süd-Tirol.
- "They are rebuilding a little Austria" is highly discriminatory against the Austrian State, as glimpsed hatred of this country, especially when it continues "We thought then, at the end of the Great War, and after a couple of generations many autonomist aspirations would be gradually softened. Instead, a century later, is also worse. The grandchildren are realizing the dream of grandparents defeated: restore Austria where a war had evicted. " You can not see pure nationalistic fanaticism.
- " It's like grandparents to agree on the name grandson of: a deal in itself ephemeral and intangible, but able to unleash furious wars family " is an explicit reference to the war (!)
- Quote serious allegations of Urzì: " after ethnic cleansing, we are cleaning toponymy ". If there had been an ethnic cleansing would not need a clean place names, because after" ethnic cleansing "would disappear even those who have the courage to do such statements.
- "... here, now, the Germans are seventy percent" . Message of resignation, the Germans invaded Italy, first, that before 800 AD, the "Italians" were in the majority.
- "As it happens, in the area already draws air from the holy war" . Thrilling, however it seems to me a journalistic scoop.
- Urzì Quote: "lost its name, the memory is lost." The memory of that era?
- The article "legitimate" his "artwork" with a commentary by Chris Kury (Greens / Grüne / Verco), which would be exploited as the "good German."
- Reinswald and Obereggen (as Laimburg, Seit, Leitach, etc..) Have been cited by Landeshauptmann because of common use even among those whose mother tongue Italian: Article is not explained, which makes it incomprehensible comment Durnwalder .
- "... soon it will stop in Trento Italy ..." Borghetto or perhaps like the old days? Trent is always taken as a model of Italian. I would like to see today around the Trentino what are the views.
- Quote Durnwalder reported in "Let's be clear: if then an Italian, in private, will use the Italian name, will do so. It is not the official version, but may do so ... ". I just heard this phrase spoken by Landeshauptmann during" Am Tisch runden "on RAI Sender Bozen: how come into possession of this statement the journalist ? Note: Urzì was staying connected from Bologna.
However, the same day the Italian regional newspaper The Daily reported a summary of the article in the online edition of "Il Giornale", giving the latter's exclusive news (!). The reader comments are chilling.
